A King and a Robber(A short story)(An homage to “The Emperor’s New Clothes”)

(Note: I use AI to help me translate my stories from Japanese to English.)

Once upon a time, there was a strange king who lived in a very, very big castle.

The soldiers and villagers respected him, but the king often looked sad. He only looked happy when he played with the children in the village. He loved them very much, so he sometimes went to play with them.

One day, the king was playing tag with the children. A man in dirty clothes came quietly to him.

“King! My daughter really wants to meet you,” the man said. “But she is sick and cannot get out of bed. Please come to our house and see her.”

“Of course. I want to meet her. Where is your house?”

The king followed the man and went inside his house. But there was no child.

Suddenly, the man’s face turned red. He grabbed the king’s clothes and took them off. He put his own dirty clothes on the king and wore the king’s clothes himself.

The robber, now dressed as the king, went straight to the castle.

“Open the gate! The king is back!” he shouted.

The soldiers saw the man wearing the king’s clothes. They believed him and let him in. The robber became the king.

The real king, wearing dirty clothes, ran to the castle.

“I am the king! Let me in!” he shouted.

But the soldiers saw his dirty clothes and didn’t believe him.

The king went back to the village, but nobody there recognized him.

“They only see my clothes. That’s why they don’t know me,” the king said, crying.

Then, two children ran to him.

“Let’s play, King!” they said and hugged him.

“You know I am the king?” he asked.

“Yes!” the children said.

The king smiled. He was very happy.

He decided not to go back to the castle. He wanted to stay with the children in the village.

From that day, the king was happy every day.

The End.
